Darren E. Levin was born in Kansas, and resided in Versailles, Missouri through High School. He graduated from Stover High School in May of 2003 as Valedictorian of his class. That fall, he began his studies at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri. He found his love of lighting design during his coursework at Missouri State, and also expanded to scenic design and scenic construction.  He continued his education at The University of Texas at Austin and received his Master of Fine Arts Degree in Theatrical Design with emphasis in Lighting Design.

Darren was employed at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts also in Springfield, Missouri. During his four years at Hammons Hall, he was a Lighting Manager for the venue. He supervised crews of all sizes for concert, theatrical, and comedy performances.  During his undergraduate studies, he also worked extensively with Downhome Productions, and the Haygoods show in Branson, Missouri.

Darren has worked extensively with Cedar Point Live Entertainment at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio. He began as a Master Electrician and moved up to work as the Technical Foreman for the 2009 Summer Season, supervising six venues with thousands of performances. He also was a lighting designer for Got Country and Country Unleashed for the 2008 and 2009 seasons respectively.

He toured with Feld Entertainment’s Disney on Ice Let’s Celebrate as an electrician in Mexico and West Coast USA.  After leaving the road, he was the Assistant Technical Director and Lighting Supervisor for three years at McCain Auditorium on the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan, Kansas.

Darren joined the faculty of the Department of Theatre and Dance Middle Tennessee State University as Assistant Professor of Lighting Design in 2013, where he currently teaches courses in Lighting Design and Technology as well as Theatre Appreciation for the department.

Darren is a proud member of United Scenic Artists 829 (IATSE Local USA829), The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) Local 205-Austin, TX, and United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT). He has and continues to serve on various regional and national committees within the USITT organization.

Outside of the theatre world, Darren is an avid skier, and enjoys attending events/supporting his beloved Texas Longhorns.
